Recent Research in Information Design and Document Design by Saul Carliner

On April 26, we were pleased to provide an event with guest speaker Saul Carliner. This was one of our most successful events over the past 2-3 years (except for the annual Conventions) with 61 attendees.

The evening was opened by Lisa Tsabari. She shared briefly about how techncial communication is being handeled at Symantec and their current move towards content management.

Saul then began to share with us about the current status of research in information and document design. We learned that more research is being performed outside of our field, than actually within our field. Saul helped us to understand criteria to look for when determining if the research we want to refer to is truly reliable for our needs. Perhaps most importantly, he left us with a challenge to become active in technical communication research and to promote our profession at a higher level.

Saul wrote a lovely note thanking our chapter for their hospitality, and provided a copy of his presentation in PDF format.
