Below are some frequently asked questions regarding the Society for Technical Communicators.

 
 

How do I benefit by joining STC? 

Joining STC entitles you to receive the Society publications, Intercom and Technical Communication. In addition, you may join special interest groups relating to your area of specialty and receive their newsletters as well. As a member, your thoughts and opinions contribute to the profession of technical communication since you can vote for officers in the interntational body, and actively particpate in the local activities of our chapter.

As a member of STC, you may be offered special discounts for courses relating to your work.

In addition, STC Israel offers special value-added events that are offered at a reduced cost or free to members. Only members can look for work by posting their CVs or resumes at no charge via our new online forums. Volunteers also benefit by gaining additional experience and recognition by their peers.

Our website and online forums keep you up-to-date with information and tips specific to our needs in Israel.

As a member of STC, you become part of the larger family of professional technical communicators and will remain updated on the changes that affect your chosen profession.

How much does membership  cost?  

Membership fees vary, depending on the type of membership that you are interested in. The types of memberships and their respective fees are listed below (correct as of November, 2004). (For details on the benefits of the different types of membership, see the article: New Membership Structure)

Payment must be made in US dollars by credit card, check, or money order.

"Classic" Membership

  • U.S. members: $160.00 ($145 dues + $15 enrollment fee)
  • Canadian members: $175.00 ($145 dues + $15 enrollment fee + $15 postage)
  • Overseas members: $195.00 ($145 dues + $15 enrollment fee + $35 postage)
  • Retired members:* $87.50 ($72.50 dues + $15 enrollment fee)

*To qualify, an individual must be retired and have been an STC member for at least 10 years. Retired members are not counted in the calculation of chapter rebate amounts.

"Limited" Membership

  • U.S. members: $140.00 ($125 dues + $15 enrollment fee)
  • Canadian members: $155.00 ($125 dues + $15 enrollment fee + $15 postage)
  • Overseas members: $175.00 ($125 dues + $15 enrollment fee + $35 postage)

E-Membership

  • U.S. members: $150.00 ($135 dues + $15 enrollment fee)
  • Canadian members: $150.00 ($135 dues + $15 enrollment fee)
  • Overseas members: $150.00 ($135 dues + $15 enrollment fee)

Student Membership

  • U.S. members: $50.00 (no enrollment fee)
  • Canadian members: $50.00 (no enrollment fee)
  • Overseas members: $50.00 (no enrollment fee)


My address has changed since I joined STC. Whom do I notify?

If you have changed your address, please update your information on the STC website.

You will need your membership number to complete this form. Your membership number is on the card that your received after becoming a member. It is also on the mailing labels of the STC publications that you receive.


I would like more information about STC activities in Israel.

I am looking for work. How can I post my CV/resume on STC's site?

STC Israel now provides a way for all STC Israel members to easily post their CVs and resumes for others to look atvia our new STC Israel Forums. How does it work?

  1. Register to join the forums (click register at the top of the forums page).
  2. You will receive an email asking you to confirm registration. Click the link in that email.
  3. Return to the forums page and login with your user name and password.
  4. FIRST TIME ONLY: At the top of the forums page, click the Usergroups option.
    a. Under the Join a Group column, select STC Members.
    b. A new page appears. Ask to join this group.
    c. The forum moderator will verify that you are a member of STC. Once verified,
        you can freely post your CV/resume.
  5. Navigate to the Looking for Work forum.
  6. Click the "newtopic" icon and post your message. You will be able to attach .doc, .rtf, .pdf and .txt files.
