STC Announces New Membership Structure

The Society for Technical Communication (STC) has expanded its membership options for 2005. New categories of membership offer various degrees of benefits for different membership dues rates. As a non-North American chapter, our members stand to save up to 25% by taking advantage of the new e-membership (details below), while still enjoying the same benefits of current membership.

Applications for current members will be mailed out in November; you may also renew online from the STC website. New members may also join online (payment by credit card) or print out an application and mail it with a check or money order in US dollars (see http://www.stc.org/join.asp for details).

The membership categories are as follows:

Classic Membership

The classic membership entitles members to the paper versions of Intercom (10 per year) and Technical Communication (4 per year) and access to the online versions; full access to the members-only area of the STC website; and a choice between the following options for membership in STC communities:

  • one chapter and one Special Interest Group (SIG), or
  • three SIGs

COSTS FOR

  • Renewing members: $180 ($145 dues and $35 for postage).
  • New members: $195 (as above plus $15 for enrollment fee).
  • Retired member: $72.50. To qualify for this rate, an individual must be retired and have been an STC member for at least ten years.

E-Membership

E-membership entitles members to the same benefits as Classic Membership, except that e-members will not receive paper copies of Intercom and Technical Communication. However, e-members will receive online access to view and download these publications from STC.

COSTS FOR

  • Renewing members: $135
  • New members: $150 (includes $15 for enrollment fee)

Limited Membership

Limited membership includes subscriptions to the paper versions of Intercom and Technical Communication and full access to the members-only area of the STC website. Limited memberships do not include membership in chapters or SIGs.

NOTE: As of this date, there is no Limited E-Membership grade.

COSTS FOR

  • Renewing members: $160
  • New members: $175 (includes $15 for enrollment fee)
