Dear Members of STC Israel,
As the new Administrative Council looks toward the coming year, a top
concern is bringing value to your membership. We are approaching this
by advancing the interests of our chapter at the Society level, and providing
a wide range of events (members only events, Webinars, etc.).
We are excited about the events planned for this year. Our events committee
made a great start with the successful April 2nd event on Interactivity
in PDFs; there was standing room only! For photos of the event, visit
our site; a review will be added shortly.
On April 26, Saul Carliner is giving a special talk on Recent Research
in Information Design and Document Design--What We Know and What's Left
to Learn. Saul Carliner is a world-renown speaker and former president
of STC. His research, which has received funding from the Social Sciences
and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Council on Learning,
and the Society for Technical Communication, focuses on emerging forms
of online learning and communication for the workplace, and the management
of groups that produce this content. This event will be hosted by Symantec
in Or Yehuda; full details will be sent in a separate e-mail.
Events planned for later this year include more on interactivity in your
online documentation, and Writing and Using Company Style Guides. An event
with the Yokneam Forums is currently being arranged, with US Consul Jonathan
D. Friedlander as the speaker. In addition, we are planning a special
members only event giving tips and tricks when working with AuthorIt.
All events will be announced to you and posted on Calendar page of our
website, as well as in the News & Events section.
What else is STC Israel offering you?
- A 10% discount for all courses advertised on our site. Interested?
Take a look. In particular, Saul Carliner is giving a two-day seminar
on Knowledge Management on April 23-24. STC Israel members are being
offered a 10% discount!
- Looking for work? Post your resume free on our site.
- Discounts to events offered by the Israel Translators Association.
Visit the News and Events page often to find out about the latest event.
The website forums will be updated shortly, to handle important safety
and access issues. Until these updates are completed we ask for your patience.
If you see something problematic on the site please contact our webmaster.
People have been asking about the next STC Israel Convention. We hope
to hold one in 2007, but cannot do it without your help. Before moving
ahead, we need volunteers who will help in planning and running it. If
you would like to volunteer, please write to us.
Is there a topic you would especially like to have as an event? Would
you like to present, or offer a venue? Please let us know.
Finally, we are pleased to announce the Call for Presentations for the
STC Region 2 conference on "Making Cents of Making Sense: Technical
Communications and Business". This international meeting will be
held in London, October 13-14, 2006. The AC is discussing ways for our
chapter to be involved in this important meeting; we will keep you posted.
In the meantime, visit the STC UK Chapter website for details.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a happy Passover
holiday.
We look forward to hearing from you.
